The Stepping Stones locations offer Therapy Groups on a variety of topics. These groups can be an ideal way to enhance learning and to make positive life changes.

Kelowna Therapy Groups

Preteen Group 9-12 Saturdays 1:00pm – 2:15pm

 

Informal opportunity for boys aged 9-12 to come together and play board games, go to the park, create and build as well as discuss topics important to them. Social thinking philosophies will be incorporated into the program by the facilitator to encourage positive social skills while playing and interacting.

 

Connected Parenting Parents Saturday, March 7, 2020, 9am-12pm

 

This half-day workshop is intended to help caregivers explore the underlying reasons behind children’s/teen’s behaviours and learn how to connect and parent using a positive and relational approach. The latest research in neuroscience and attachment will be utilized to help caregivers develop a deeper understanding for their child & nurture their emotional capacities

 

Gentle Connections 7+ Feb 29 9:30 – 11:30am

 

A grief group for kids and teens that have lost a parent. Join us for a morning of connections. Our therapy dogs, along with their handlers, will provide a space for grief sharing and explorations. Activities and snacks will be provided.

 

Girl Power 8-10 Wednesdays 5:15pm – 6:30pm

 

Girls learn social skills and build self esteem through a variety fo activities such as crafts, cooking, board games, building activities, role playing and movement.
In It Together – Parent Group Parents Feb 10th Mar 9th April 20th 7:00-8:15pm

 

Join with other caregivers to learn about a variety of topics and join in discussion. Topics will include: therapy dogs; grief and loss; sibling conflict and blended families; self care for parents and relationship-rescue; aggression in teens and preteens; EMDR for kids
Independence and Social Skills Training

 

Boys 6-8 Thursdays 4:00 – 5:00

 

Boys learn to complete 3 independent tasks through a work system incorporated into a binder. The group also includes movement, socializing, and building activities to promote sharing, working together and friendship skills.

 

Gender Group – Parents

 

Parents March 2 & 4 This series will be a place for parents /caregivers who are supporting gender questioning and transitioning youth a place to learn and share.
Gender Group 13+ January 27, February 3, 10, 24 and March 2, 9.

 

Connect and learn tips & tools around gender questioning and transitioning terminology, emotional regulation & coping tools, adaptive clothing, communication with family/community, voice modification, medical information, dating and more!
Open Art Studio All ages and families One Saturday Monthly – 12-3pm Jan 25 Feb 22

 

Drop in with your family, friends or by yourself to create art in a space held by an art therapist. Use this time to bond, create and have fun while creating art. A variety of art materials will be provided. The studio is open to everyone and no art experience is required. We ask that parents remain with their children at all times.
Social Skills- Super Flex Style Group 8-10 Thursdays 5:15-6:30 pm

 

Through stories and play, the boys learn to think more flexibly and communicate in a friendly way to express their needs. Activities include building and board games as well as movement and discussion. Some role playing games will be incorporated to practice skills as well as free time to create a natural environemt for socializing with other boys their age.

 

Teen Boys Group 13-16 Saturdays 2:30 – 4:30pm

 

Weekly opportunites for discussion and get togethers for teen boys. Once a month trips to places like Scandia, Escape Rooms, Virtual Reality and Menchies as well as other activities of the teens chosing. Activities at Kirschner include board games, drawing, bring your own device, Lego structures, word problems and other building projects.

 

Teen Nights Teens 14+ Mondays 6:30pm – 8:15pm

 

A variety of social skills and physical activities, outdoor education, and community outings will be offered. Typical ctivities chosen are game nights, laser tag, movies, challenge nights, etc. Monthly visits from Art Therapist Amy Van Dongen.
Young Adult ASD Group 18+ TBD This group is for young adults age 18+ with an ASD diagnosis. Participants will determine the focus of the group, be it social, skills building, or a combination.

 

Paws and Pages Reading Group 9-12 Thursdays from 3:30 – 5:00p, January 16 – February 20

 

Come read some books with Nava and Punim! This after school group is designed for children to connect with animals and peers while developing and nurturing reading skills. Each week the group will read a different themed book, topics include, kindness, empathy, resilience.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for Teens (MBSR-T) 13-17 Tuesdays – April 7, 14, 21, and 28 Time: 5:30 to 7 pm Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction helps participants access and cultivate their natural capacity to actively engage in caring for themselves and finding greater balance, ease, and peace of mind. MBSR has been successfully used with people experiencing: anxiety & panic attacks, gastro-intestinal (GI) distress, family and other stresses, grief, asthma, headaches, cancer, heart disease, chronic illness, depression, pain, eating disturbances, post-traumatic stress (PTSD), fatigue, skin disorders, fibromyalgia, and sleep problems. The MBSR-T group will help adolescents learn to attend to their experiences more fully and find ways to better manage anxiety, stress, depression, grief, and other experiences that contribute to suffering.
